WHAT TO EXPECT

I know how important it is to find the right person to work through your problems with which is why I offer a free 20 minute phone consultation prior to booking your first appointment.

 

In the phone consultation you will get the opportunity to ask me questions and I will encourage you to think about the sort of changes you would like in your life. Sometimes people have very clear goals before they come to therapy and some times they need a bit of time to work it out.

 

What to expect in your first appointment

At your first appointment I will first clarify confidentiality with you so that you can feel confident in sharing information with me.

I will then encourage you to tell me about the kind of problems you're experiencing such as difficult thoughts, memories, feelings, relationship problems and how they get in the way of your day-to-day life. I will then try to find out how you would like your life to be different and the kind of help you hope I can provide.

Don't worry if you don't know the answers to all the questions, I'm here to help you figure them out.

At the end of the session I will summarise your problems and how I think I can help. It will then be up to you to decide if you think that working with me could be helpful for you. There may be occassions where I do not believe I am the best person to help in which case i will suggest an alternative service. However, this will be extremely rare as we will have discussed suitability in the phone consultation.

An initial assessment usually last 50-90 minutes with subsequent sessions lasting 50 minutes.

I am required by law to keep clinical notes as a record of our sessions. As a client I would encourage you to keep some notes too as it can be difficult to remember the content of each session.

If you have been referred through your GP or your insurance company I have to collect additional information on their behalf and report back to them with regards to our progress.
